Terra billing projects for SCP studies

About Google billing accounts

Study creation and sharing of study data is free for study owners. To manage costs, data download is limited to 0.5 TB per day. If your dataset is >0.5 TB and you would like to enable download of data from your study without the data download quota,  consider using your own Google billing account when creating your SCP study.

All costs charged to Google billing accounts are charged through Google, can be monitored through the Google Console, and are charged from Google and not the Portal.

When you add a study to a Google billing account, your Google billing account will be charged for storage of files and any computes you personally run directly from Google. Operations of the portal are not billed to user Google billing accounts.

Obtain a Google billing account

This process will differ per institute. Set up Google Billing Account for Terra then add the Google billing account through Single Cell Portal (instructions below) and not Terra.

Please note this process creates a Terra billing project which the Single Cell Portal will use. Each SCP study will generate a separate Google project assigned to your Google billing account. Both the Terra billing project and the Google project created for your study will be set-up with your Google billing account.

After logging in, select the "My Billing Projects" drop-down.

Click "Create a billing project" which will redirect to Terra where you can set up billing.

Use and administration

Once you have a Terra billing project, you can use it when you create a study. It will be available to you to select to if you want to create a study that requires computes. You can add people to your Terra billing project and enable their ability to run computes through "My Billing Projects". Please note the Single Cell Portal is not responsible for costs accrued by the use of Terra billing projects; please only add users to your project that will be responsible with the use of the Terra billing project.
